Sogdiana Sector
Some brief notes on points of interest in the Sogdiana Sector follow.
Fort Varilia
This is a large flat artificial asteroid, tethered to the Aluvia, which was built as a stronghold to secure the Sovereignty's border with the Crook & Flail Kingdoms. It has docking space for the large naval squadron posted here, as well as hollows in the sides which house the dragons attached to the squadron. A hive of small tunnels in the heart of the asteroid exists for the teeming thri-kreen masses and ornate surface buildings and temples are where the githyanki officers, priests and other figures live. There is also a merchant district to receive and accommodate traders from Outer Sogdiana.
Nizam
Nizam is a tethered planet which serves as the Crook & Flail Kingdoms' outpost in the Zeit. As with the Sov's outpost at Fort Varilia, a large fleet is always present here to protect trade. Sov presence here is not tolerated. Even merchants and other groups known to associate with the Sov are harassed. Nizam is a good source of food, wood and textiles from the lush Crook & Flail planets, and exotic goods from Outer Sogdiana are always in demand. Because it is a bit less militaristic and far less zealous than Fort Varilia, as well as being an entire planet with more room for activities, Nizam serves as a hub for Sogdiana traders, runners and smugglers.
Kuikuro
Accessible through a tethered portal, Kuikuro plane is named after the large jungle planet which is its main attraction. A red sun is at its center, with three planets in total orbiting it.
Kuikuro, the second planet, is savage and unsettleable. Not even spelljammers can approach too closely, due to the giant flying creatures which rule its skies. Those who would brave its surface are dropped and picked up by jammers which enter only as far as the upper atmosphere. Traversing rest of the way down or back up is on them. There are many exotic resources to be found on the planet, and the high returns on these goods attract many brave souls to try their luck. All expeditions to the planet are launched from Kwaza Tupi, an asteroid outpost orbiting around it. There are no civilized settlements on the planet, but it is rumoured that a notorious brotherhood of assassins who go by the name of the Emerald Order make it their home.
The two other planets in this plane include a burnt rocky inner planet and an outer gas giant. Beyond the gas giant is a sparse asteroid belt which sees some mining activity and is one of the most lawless and out of the way places in the sector.
Jarvii
Jarvii is a frozen planet tethered directly to the Aluvia, though not near enough to it to enjoy its warmth. The active molten core of the planet is its only source of heat, and reaches the surface via geysers. A hardy group of humans eke out a life near the geysers, feeding themselves on the bounty of the deep oceans beneath the ice. Where there are no oceans are deep underground mines dug out by dwarves, goblins and orcs, who extract the rich mineral deposits in the planet's depths and fight endlessly among themselves.
Zaphabus
Zaphabus is a gas giant tethered to the Aluvia. Ice dryads live among its rings, surfing about on shards of ice they propel using secretive means, leaving comet-like tails behind them. They are quite protective of their rings, which are a good source of skystone, an exotic mineral sought by mages.
There once was a moon orbiting Zaphabus which was destroyed a long time ago. All that remains of it is an outer ring of asteroids, peopled by the Gurk, human descendants of the inhabitants of this forgotten planet. The Gurk, who can always be recognized by their distinct long wispy hair and beards and loose frilly clothing, have mastered the space surfing technique of the ice dryads. They can always be seen surfing between the thousands of fragments of their former home, wielding their long katana-like weapons in raids amongst themselves, and against the ice dryads.
Tokono
The Tonoko plane, is named after its main planet, mostly a hot and dry hostile wasteland featuring large seas of shifting sands teeming with sand dragons. There are a few settlements here and there on the highlands. Food is hard to grow, so it is usually traded for using the many riches found among the sands. There are also hundreds of canyons and arroyos, more than can ever be mapped. Here dwell mostly those who don't wish to be found, or those who prey on such souls.
This plane also has an inner asteroid belt very close to the twin suns at its center. Due to the deadly heat there it is named Hell's Ring. There is a lot of rocky debris in the outer part of the plane, full of mineral wealth, but far apart and thus impractical to mine.
Xag Omlaobb Yshadh
This foreboding plane has a red dwarf sun offering little in the way of light or warmth. It is filled with numerous planets, moons and asteroids which constantly collide into one another, adding to the general chaos. The danger from these collisions, as well as the unfathomable horrors which roam throughout this plane keep all but the hardiest of mining outfits far far away.
Borgul
The Borgul plane is accessible via an untethered portal, deep within the Yon, as well as from the Dogleg plane. It has a scorched inner planet named Argyle, which hides the portal to the Dogleg plane on its sun side. There are three outer gas giants and the main planet, named Borgul Prime, in between.
Borgul Prime was once a mining hub, very rich in resources. It is now a hollowed out shell of its former self, pockmarked with open pits where its riches were extracted. Dwarves used to thrive here, but they left when the minerals were gone. It is said that the last dwarven king, a spiteful evil character named Ostril the Dark, untethered the plane just before he led his people elsewhere. The planet does have quite a bit of scrubland which can support sustenance farming and herding, but it does result in a hard life for its current inhabitants, human and half-orc descendants of former miners. And that life is getting harder every generation, as the plane's portal spirals further into the Yon, resulting in less and less traders. The major settlement, if one can call it that, is named Pride Edge.
Dogleg
Dogleg is an unremarkable plane, with a lonely sun and one rock orbiting it. Its only attraction is that, besides its portal to the Zeit, which wandered so far into the Yon that it was sealed long ago, there are portals to four other planes.
Its portals go to Borgul, a former mining plane, Sindor, a plane featuring a lush forest world and Yesara, an untethered plane wandering the the Yon near the heart of Sov territory. The fourth portal is sealed, and it has been long forgotten where it leads, though a large amount of blood seeps out through the seal. Some think that troubling, since it may be a sign the seal is weakening.
Sindor
The Sindor plane features a forest world peopled by elves and allies of elves living in low-footprint settlements. It is a quiet misty world which many seek as a sanctuary for meditation and other peaceful pursuits. The council of elves who oversee this plane are known to heartlessly turn away any who come seeking refuge, as they are hesitant to get involved in the politics outside their plane and risk bringing conflict upon their home.
Yesara
Yesara is an untethered plane wandering the Yon near the heart of Sov territory. It lies far to the West of the Sogdiana Sector (using SAO).
